Digbee on the weekend
« on: June 24, 2014, 01:21:40 PM »
I hereby predict that the digbee will be running (i.e. >1.2m) on Saturday and may very well be around 1.4 to 1.6.

Furthermore I announce my intention to get on it.  Who's with me?

Ice vest, obviously

Linden, Alex and me got down it in 46 mins last year at 1.6m, so I don't think getting cold will be too much of a problem if we're doing a speed run :)

Speed run after lunch Saturday or are you breaking with tradition and cracking the ice before lunch Guru Nick? Is the road open Jimi? I thought it was always open?

Its shut at the moment.  I presume that once the snow melts a bit it'll open up.  We'll see how we go with getting up early.  I just don't see the point of starting early when the whole run only takes 46 minutes. :)

I reckon that the road will be shut since there's more snow predicted for Saturday.

You could possibly drive in via Tumut, which would be about 3hrs each way :( although that road goes higher than picadilly circus so it would probably have even more snow.  That said, I once drove over to the peak through a solid foot of snow between brindabella valley and tumut.  Perhaps the goob/peak rivers would be a better option if the road stays shut (just drive round via the hume).

Turns out you can also get there via Wee jasper, which is 134km so probably 2hrs or so.

There are 2 roads via wee j Nottingham and the other one? Griff ?
I think it should be opened now but when I asked tams the other day they said there is a high chance they  close it for the weekend. Weejasper will be 2.5-3 hours each way.

Details on road closures here http://www.cmd.act.gov.au/open_government/inform/act_government_media_releases/tamsd

High probability with the rain predicted for the weekend that Brindabella road will be closed.

Tentative plan is to depart Canberra Sat Morning and head for the Goob.  Paddle Goob (and perhaps the peak) on Sat.  Overnight camp and then maybe head back from the other side to the Digbee.  At this stage Mick and I are confirmed.  Anyone else in?

Brindabella road is now open, and I don't reckon there's any reason for it to be shut on Saturday, although that doesn't mean that I don't think overeager keen beans at TAMS might decide to shut it anyway.  I don't think its going to snow much on Saturday.  I'm keen for the Goob/camp plan.
